CVE-2026-113220
Description
A flaw was found in chromium-browser. A remote attacker could exploit a memory corruption issue in the Extensions component by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted HTML page, potentially allowing arbitrary code execution within the browser's sandbox. While execution is confined to the sandbox—an isolated security environment—this flaw compromises the affected browser process.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as an Important severity issue by Red Hat because an unauthenticated remote attacker can achieve arbitrary code execution within the application process if a user loads malicious content. Although execution remains confined inside the renderer sandbox rather than immediately escalating host-level privileges, the zero-privilege remote vector justifies an Important rating over Moderate. The Chromium browser is not packaged or supported in core Red Hat Enterprise Linux distributions, restricting potential exposure to users utilizing community repositories such as Fedora and EPEL.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State
Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
