CVE-2026-113186
Description
A flaw was found in chromium-browser. A remote attacker can achieve arbitrary code execution outside the browser sandbox by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted HTML webpage. This vulnerability is caused by a memory corruption error in the Developer Tools (DevTools) component. If exploited, an attacker could break out of the browser's security boundaries and compromise the underlying operating system.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important because successful exploitation allows an attacker to escape the application's process isolation boundaries and execute unauthorized code directly in the host user's environment. Chromium packages are not included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux core repositories and are only delivered through community channels like EPEL and Fedora. Furthermore, exploitation requires user interaction, specifically convincing a user to load malicious web content while the developer tools interface is engaged.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State
Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
