CVE-2026-113105
Description
A flaw was found in chromium-browser. A remote attacker can exploit a use-after-free vulnerability—where memory is improperly accessed after being deallocated—in the Extensions component to achieve arbitrary code execution inside the browser sandbox. By convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML page, the attacker triggers memory corruption to run unauthorized code within the restricted sandbox environment.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because exploitation permits remote code execution within the browser's sandbox if a user is enticed to open a crafted web page. Within the Red Hat ecosystem, Chromium is not shipped in core Red Hat Enterprise Linux repositories but is maintained through community channels such as EPEL and Fedora. The risk is elevated by the potential for remote execution without prior authentication, yet bounded by the sandbox boundary which prevents direct access to the underlying host unless paired with a separate privilege escalation or escape flaw.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory
If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
