CVE-2026-113097
Description
A flaw was found in chromium-browser. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to achieve arbitrary code execution within the browser sandbox by convincing a user to visit a crafted HTML page. The issue stems from a use-after-free error in the FileSystem component, which occurs when the application attempts to access memory after it has already been freed.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important because exploitation enables remote code execution inside the renderer process when a user is enticed to open a malicious web page. Although the blast radius is confined by the Chromium sandbox and cannot compromise the underlying operating system without a separate privilege escalation or sandbox escape, the unauthenticated remote attack vector warrants an Important rating. Chromium is not part of the standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux product line and is distributed through Fedora and EPEL community repositories.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory
If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
