CVE-2026-113071

Description

A flaw was found in chromium-browser. A use-after-free vulnerability exists in the Notifications component, occurring when memory is accessed after it has already been freed. A remote attacker could exploit this flaw by enticing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML page, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution within the browser sandbox.

Statement

This vulnerability is classified as having an Important severity because an unauthenticated remote attacker can achieve arbitrary code execution within the browser's sandbox without requiring elevated privileges, relying solely on user interaction. Chromium is not distributed in default Red Hat Enterprise Linux installations, significantly limiting the exposure of enterprise systems. Exploitation requires a user to navigate to a maliciously designed web page, and while sandbox restrictions constrain the blast radius from directly compromising the host operating system, memory corruption within the process remains a substantial security risk.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality

Technical Impact: Read Memory

If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart

If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.

Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability

Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands

If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
