CVE-2026-113042
Description
A flaw was found in chromium-browser. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML page, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution within the browser's sandbox environment. This issue is caused by a use-after-free memory management error in the Extensions subsystem, where the application references memory after it has already been freed.
Statement
In Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, this vulnerability is evaluated with an Important severity impact because an unauthenticated remote adversary can achieve code execution within the sandboxed browser process by luring a user to open malicious web content. Even though sandbox protections prevent direct compromise of the underlying operating system, the capability to execute attacker-controlled instructions remotely warrants an Important rather than Moderate rating. Standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments do not ship Chromium, as the package is only distributed through community channels including EPEL and Fedora.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory
If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
