CVE-2026-112995
Description
A flaw was found in the Animation component of Chromium. This use-after-free issue occurs when the application attempts to access memory after it has been freed. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to open a specially crafted HTML page, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution within the browser's sandbox.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because successful exploitation enables remote arbitrary code execution inside the renderer sandbox upon rendering untrusted web content. While the browser sandbox restricts direct access to the underlying host operating system, an attacker could compromise the integrity of the active browsing session. Chromium is not distributed in core Red Hat Enterprise Linux channels, and typical enterprise server deployments without graphical desktop environments remain unexposed. Successful attack delivery further relies on social engineering to entice a user into loading a malicious page.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory
If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
