CVE-2026-112909
Description
A flaw was found in filelock. A local attacker can exploit this vulnerability by placing a target regular file at the expected lock file path using a file rename or hard link. When filelock acquires the lock, it can unintentionally truncate the contents of the target file and alter its permissions, resulting in data loss.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact for Red Hat products because exploitation requires local access and uncommon shared directory configurations to succeed. While filelock is integrated across multiple Red Hat platforms, default kernel hardening on supported systems (such as protected hardlinks) blocks the hard-link vector. Consequently, unauthorized file truncation or permission changes depend on an unprivileged local actor having rename access in a shared, non-sticky directory before the lock is established. Normal process synchronization and mutual locking operations remain functional.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
