CVE-2026-112891
Description
A flaw was found in Pillow. A remote attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by providing a specially crafted image with an excessively large comment to an application that saves it as a GIF. Due to inefficient data copying while assembling image headers, processing such comments consumes excessive CPU resources and can render the application unresponsive.
Statement
This vulnerability is assessed as having a Moderate impact because it results solely in a denial of service via CPU exhaustion without compromising system confidentiality or data integrity. In Red Hat environments, the affected library is utilized across various service and container workloads, but triggering the flaw requires an application to ingest untrusted image input and subsequently write or re-encode it using the GIF format. Workloads that do not accept external input or do not serialize images to GIF remain unaffected.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
