CVE-2026-112272
Description
A flaw was found in libdisplay-info. A local attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by providing specially crafted Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) through a malicious display, video capture device, or file. The DisplayID parser fails to properly validate data block lengths, allowing the parser to read past the allocated buffer and crash the application.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having Moderate impact because exploitation requires local access or physical connection of a malicious peripheral to deliver an untrusted display descriptor, resulting only in an application crash. The flaw is confined to a denial of service and does not permit code execution or data leakage. Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases are not affected because the shipped versions do not include the vulnerable DisplayID parser logic.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
