CVE-2026-111804
Description
A flaw was found in Apache Traffic Server's experimental WebAssembly (WASM) plugin. A remote attacker can trigger a use-after-free condition during transaction closure or supply unvalidated metric identifiers to the internal statistics interface. This flaw allows an attacker to cause an application crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS), or potentially corrupt internal application metrics.
Statement
Apache Traffic Server 10.0.0–10.1.4 and 10.2.0 contain a use-after-free in the experimental WASM plugin's transaction-close handler, which also forwards unvalidated guest-supplied metric IDs to the internal stats API. A remote attacker able to send traffic processed by an instance with the experimental wasm plugin loaded can cause denial of service and metric-stat corruption. Red Hat does not ship Apache Traffic Server in any Red Hat-branded product; only Fedora and EPEL community builds exist. Fixed upstream in 10.1.5 and 10.2.1.
Mitigation
Do not enable the experimental WASM plugin on affected instances; upgrade to Apache Traffic Server 10.1.5 or 10.2.1 (or a later fixed release) when available in your stream.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory
If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
