CVE-2026-111064

Description

A flaw was found in aiohttp. The server does not enforce a timeout during the initial phase of a request before any data is received. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by keeping idle connections open indefinitely, exhausting available connection capacity and resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Statement

This flaw affects products that run an aiohttp server exposed to untrusted clients. Products that use aiohttp only as an HTTP client are not affected.

greater than zero, lower the default keepalive_timeout from 3630 to 75.0 seconds, and enforce a first-request deadline, closing all 2 injection vectors (idle TCP connections opened without sending request data, trickling partial request data before the first complete HTTP request). Until patched, this is a concern on aiohttp HTTP server deployments directly exposed to network traffic without intermediate timeout enforcement, so place aiohttp instances behind a reverse proxy that actively enforces connection read and idle timeouts before requests arrive. As a compensating measure, configure systemd WatchdogSec and automatic restart directives to monitor daemon responsiveness and restart the aiohttp service if connection exhaustion halts health checks. These controls limit blast radius and contain exploitation, but they do not fix the underlying missing initial request timeout defect — apply the upstream patch to fully remediate.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (Other); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU)

An attacker that can influence the allocation of resources that are not properly released could deplete the available resource pool and prevent all other processes from accessing the same type of resource. Frequently-affected resources include memory, CPU, disk space, power or battery, etc.
