CVE-2026-110856
Description
A flaw was found in GitPython. A remote attacker can trigger a Denial of Service (DoS) by providing a malicious repository containing commit or tag objects with long, space-filled lines lacking a valid timestamp or timezone. When parsing these lines, the regular expression pattern triggers quadratic backtracking, leading to high CPU consumption and causing the application to become unresponsive.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because Red Hat services and containerized environments that ingest remote repositories can be exposed to sustained service outages without requiring administrative privileges or local system access. When an integration processes a repository that includes specifically structured author or tag metadata, the regex evaluation experiences severe resource exhaustion, stalling worker processes. While this defect disrupts service availability across automation workflows and analysis pipelines, it does not allow unauthorized data access or arbitrary code execution.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
