CVE-2026-109832
Description
A flaw was found in gnome-remote-desktop as shipped in Red Hat Enterprise Linux. In the VNC TLS I/O handlers, retryable GnuTLS results (GNUTLS_E_AGAIN and GNUTLS_E_INTERRUPTED) are handled with an unbounded busy loop instead of yielding to the event loop. A remote attacker who can reach an enabled VNC TLS listener can cause the event-loop thread to spin at high CPU with no forward progress, resulting in denial of service.
Statement
This vulnerability only affects Red Hat Enterprise Linux / CentOS builds of gnome-remote-desktop in the package version range >= 0.1.6-1 through <= 40.0-11 when the VNC service is enabled and the TLS path is used. The default shipped VNC encryption setting includes tls-anon.
Mitigation
If VNC is not required, disable the gnome-remote-desktop VNC service. If it must remain enabled, restrict the VNC listener to trusted hosts or management networks using host-based firewall rules.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
