CVE-2026-109156
Description
A flaw was found in MLServer. A remote attacker could achieve arbitrary file write by supplying a specially crafted environment archive containing path traversal sequences. Because the environment extraction handler does not adequately validate destination paths before unpacking, archive files can be written outside the intended target directory. This unauthorized file write could allow an attacker to overwrite sensitive data or disrupt service operations.
Statement
Red Hat Product Security has rated this vulnerability as having a Moderate impact because exploitation requires loading a maliciously crafted environment archive, requiring user interaction or compromised model deployment workflows rather than unauthenticated direct access. In Red Hat OpenShift AI (RHOAI), MLServer runs within containerized pod environments with restricted privileges, confining the blast radius of any unauthorized file write to the local container filesystem. Consequently, underlying host infrastructure and broader cluster resources remain protected from direct compromise under default deployment configurations.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
