CVE-2026-108106
Description
A flaw was found in snappy-java. A remote attacker can exploit this unbounded memory allocation vulnerability by providing crafted compressed input with an excessively large declared uncompressed size during decompression. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to exhaust available system memory, leading to an OutOfMemoryError and causing a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important because remote unauthenticated attackers can trigger application crashes across services parsing untrusted compressed streams, leading to a complete denial of service for host Java applications. In Red Hat environments, snappy-java is utilized as a compression library in various middleware and data-processing workloads. Exploitation requires the vulnerable component to decompress user-supplied inputs, meaning deployments that do not ingest untrusted compressed payloads or that restrict input processing at service boundaries experience reduced exposure.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
