CVE-2026-108104
Description
A flaw was found in snappy-java. A remote attacker can cause information disclosure or data corruption by supplying framed data with an excessively large chunk length. This input triggers an out-of-memory condition during buffer reallocation in SnappyFramedInputStream, causing pooled memory buffers to be released multiple times. Consequently, different data streams may share the same memory buffer, allowing sensitive decompressed data to be exposed or overwritten.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated Moderate rather than Important because successful exploitation requires specific timing and memory-constrained conditions to trigger buffer reuse across concurrent threads, without allowing remote code execution. In typical Red Hat deployments, snappy-java is consumed as an embedded compression library across middleware, data processing pipelines, and cloud services. While an untrusted input could cause memory pressure leading to shared decompressor buffers, an attacker cannot reliably target arbitrary memory contents, limiting the flaw to partial confidentiality and integrity impact.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
