CVE-2026-106561
Description
A flaw was found in the Backstage Kubernetes backend plugin (plugin-kubernetes-backend). An authenticated user with standard resource read permissions can retrieve sensitive values from Kubernetes queries that the plugin is designed to mask. This flaw allows information disclosure, potentially exposing confidential cluster data and credentials accessible to the service account.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because it requires valid user authentication and only exposes data already accessible to the backend service account. In Red Hat Developer Hub and Ansible Automation Platform environments using the Kubernetes backend plugin, an authenticated user with query permissions can view sensitive field data that should otherwise be obfuscated. The risk is bounded because access is restricted to resources within the matching namespace and label selectors configured for the targeted catalog entity, preventing arbitrary cluster-wide secret exposure.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Files or Directories; Read Application Data
Sensitive data may be exposed to an unauthorized actor in another control sphere. This may have a wide range of secondary consequences that will depend on what data is exposed. One possibility is the exposure of system data - such as file locations, software versions, or device data - that allow an attacker to craft a specific, more effective attack. Alternately, insufficient redaction of Private Personal Information (PPI), Personally Identifiable Information (PII), or other types of information might not harm the secure operation of the product itself, but could be violations of expectations by the product's users.
