CVE-2026-106554
Description
A flaw was found in jackson-dataformat-cbor. A remote attacker can supply a specially crafted Concise Binary Object Representation (CBOR) stream containing an excessive sequence of stacked semantic tags before a data item. Because the parser accumulates these tags without an upper bound and resizes its internal storage inefficiently, processing the input requires disproportionate processing time and memory. This flaw leads to thread exhaustion and excessive processor utilization, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having Important severity because an unauthenticated remote attacker can exhaust server CPU resources and tie up worker threads with small payloads, causing a complete denial of service. In Red Hat environments, the issue affects Java services and frameworks that expose endpoints accepting and deserializing CBOR-formatted input from untrusted sources. Applications that do not utilize the CBOR dataformat module or only process inputs from mutually authenticated, trusted clients are not susceptible to this attack.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (Other)
When allocating resources without limits, an attacker could prevent other systems, applications, or processes from accessing the same type of resource. It can be easy for an attacker to consume many resources by rapidly making many requests or causing larger resources to be used than is needed.
