CVE-2026-106506

Description

A flaw was found in plugin-scaffolder-backend. This vulnerability allows an authenticated user with permission to create and view tasks to access confidential task secrets, resulting in information disclosure. Due to improper input validation in task list ordering, an attacker can submit repeated requests to infer sensitive data associated with target tasks.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as having Moderate impact because exploitation requires an authenticated account with existing permissions to create and view scaffolder tasks, high attack complexity, and repeated requests to infer sensitive task parameters. In environments deploying Red Hat Developer Hub or Ansible Automation Platform portal services, an attacker must already possess authorized access to task workflows and prior knowledge of the targeted secret layout. The scope of information disclosure is limited to retained task parameters and does not permit direct administrative compromise or arbitrary code execution.

Mitigation

To mitigate this configure your reverse proxy or gateway to reject task-list requests with custom ordering, or strictly limit them to safe fields like created_at, status, and created_by. Enforce strict role-based access controls to restrict scaffolder task creation and read permissions exclusively to trusted users, preferably via owner-based conditions. Additionally, disable task recovery to reduce secret retention for claimed tasks and minimize the overall window of potential exposure.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
