CVE-2026-106500

Description

A flaw was found in @backstage/plugin-scaffolder-backend. Due to improper task state validation, an authenticated user with permissions to create and access Scaffolder tasks can affect files accessible to the Backstage backend under specific timing and deployment conditions. If the backend application files are writable, this issue can compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the backend environment.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because authenticated remote users with rights to run software templates can alter files within the backend service environment, posing a risk to data integrity and system confidentiality. While the flaw requires valid user credentials and specific Scaffolder permissions rather than being exploitable by unauthenticated attackers, the potential ability to manipulate host or container files elevates the severity above Moderate. In typical Red Hat Developer Hub and Ansible Automation Platform deployments, the affected component operates within containerized environments, which restricts the blast radius to writable mounts while preventing direct host operating system compromise.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
