CVE-2026-106499

Description

A flaw was found in the Backstage Scaffolder backend. In environments configured with default environment secrets, an authenticated attacker with permissions to create or modify templates can cause secret-derived values to be recorded in task logs. This issue leads to information disclosure, allowing any user with access to task execution logs to view sensitive credentials.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate because successful exploitation requires elevated privileges to create or alter software templates, alongside a specific configuration defining sensitive environment secrets. In typical Red Hat Developer Hub deployments, template authoring is restricted to trusted administrators or catalog managers rather than general end-users. Although exposed task execution records could reveal sensitive values to unauthorized viewers, the necessity of privileged template management access significantly limits the attack vector.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
