CVE-2026-106497

Description

A flaw was found in Backstage's plugin-catalog-backend component. Inconsistent evaluation of catalog property permissions can lead to unauthorized information disclosure. In environments that rely on value-based permission rules to enforce access controls, an authenticated attacker can bypass intended restrictions and view sensitive catalog entity data.

Statement

Red Hat rates this vulnerability as Moderate because exploitation requires authenticated access and only allows unauthorized viewing of catalog records, with no impact on system availability or integrity. The issue affects developer portal deployments within Red Hat Developer Hub and Ansible Automation Platform where custom authorization policies enforce value-based constraints on entity fields. Portal instances operating without fine-grained, property-specific permission boundaries or lacking authenticated sessions are not exposed to this data leak.

Mitigation

To mitigate this avoid using value-based catalog permission conditions as a strict confidentiality boundary for sensitive data. Instead, restructure your policies to use explicit, fine-grained permission scoping that does not rely on potentially inconsistent property evaluation.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
