CVE-2026-106492

Description

A flaw was found in @backstage/backend-defaults. The package fails to properly preserve access restrictions during service credential delegation when requests are routed through plugin delegation paths. An authenticated service with limited privileges can exploit this issue to bypass access controls and perform unauthorized operations, such as modifying data on restricted plugins.

Statement

Red Hat rates this flaw as having an Important severity because an authenticated service token with restricted privileges can evade authorization boundaries to execute unauthorized write operations across backend plugins. In environments running Red Hat Developer Hub or the Ansible Automation Platform, internal plugin-to-plugin request routing fails to propagate external credential constraints. Although exploitation requires valid service credentials, the ability to bypass scoped access controls and modify backend state across plugin domains presents substantial integrity risks.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
