CVE-2026-106486

Description

A flaw was found in the Backstage Bitbucket Scaffolder backend modules. The Bitbucket pull request Scaffolder actions do not properly validate filesystem paths. An authenticated attacker who can execute an eligible template and influence an allowed repository can manipulate files outside the intended working directory. This can lead to unauthorized file modification, data disclosure, or disruption of backend services.

Statement

Red Hat Product Security rates this vulnerability as Important because an authenticated user capable of triggering software templates can exploit path traversal to manipulate files on the underlying host, potentially escaping the workspace boundary and affecting critical backend services. In Red Hat Developer Hub, the issue specifically affects environments where Bitbucket integration modules are active and accessible to end users. Exploitation requires privileges to launch templates that interface with an authorized Bitbucket repository, meaning installations that restrict template execution or do not integrate with Bitbucket are not exposed.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
