CVE-2026-106432
Description
A flaw was found in the MongoDB PHP Driver. In non-default runtime configurations permitting multi-gigabyte values, the BSON (Binary JSON) encoder converts large string lengths without validation, triggering an integer wrap and subsequent heap-based buffer overflow when encoding strings near four gigabytes. A local attacker can exploit this vulnerability to corrupt process memory or terminate the PHP process, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
Low severity is assigned because exploitation requires local access, a non-default PHP runtime configuration permitting multi-gigabyte memory allocations, and encoding a string near four gigabytes through the BSON encoder. In Red Hat environments, the affected MongoDB driver extension is not provided in core Red Hat Enterprise Linux channels and is only available through community streams such as Fedora and EPEL.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State
Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
