CVE-2026-105923
Description
A flaw was found in qt6. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by crashing the application. When the VectorImage component processes a specially crafted Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file, an integer calculation error triggers an invalid memory access (null-pointer dereference). To trigger this issue, an attacker must persuade a user or application to load the malicious SVG file.
Statement
This vulnerability is evaluated as Moderate impact because successful exploitation requires user interaction to process an untrusted vector graphics file and is strictly limited to application denial of service. In Red Hat deployments, Qt6 is primarily utilized in client and desktop software where an unexpected termination impacts only the active user session rather than core infrastructure. Because the flaw triggers an immediate application crash without memory corruption or unauthorized data exposure, it does not present a threat to system confidentiality or integrity.
Mitigation
Avoid opening or rendering untrusted SVG files in applications utilizing Qt6 QML VectorImage components.
Operational controls:
1. Verify that automated pipelines and users only process vector graphics received from trusted, verified sources.
2. Where handling untrusted graphics is necessary, isolate Qt6-based applications within a sandbox or unprivileged container environment (such as bubblewrap or an isolated container) to confine potential application crashes.
Caveats:
Operational sandboxing mitigates blast radius on the broader host system, but it does not prevent the individual application process from terminating abnormally when an affected file is parsed.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
NULL pointer dereferences usually result in the failure of the process unless exception handling (on some platforms) is available and implemented. Even when exception handling is being used, it can still be very difficult to return the software to a safe state of operation.
Integrity,Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands; Read Memory; Modify Memory
In rare circumstances, when NULL is equivalent to the 0x0 memory address and privileged code can access it, then writing or reading memory is possible, which may lead to code execution.
