CVE-2026-104711

Description

Apache Struts has an OGNL expression-injection vulnerability in the legacy RESTful action mapper. A crafted request to an application configured to use this mapper may lead to remote code execution. Applications using the default action mapper, the restful2 mapper, or the Struts REST plugin are not affected. Struts 7 is affected only when the OGNL allowlist is disabled; it is enabled by default.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because an unauthenticated remote attacker could achieve arbitrary code execution by submitting malicious requests that trigger OGNL expression evaluation. However, the risk is mitigated in standard environments because exploitation requires an explicit, non-default configuration to use the legacy RESTful action mapper. Deployments relying on standard action mapping, the restful2 mapper, or the Struts REST plugin remain unaffected, and Struts 7 environments are shielded by default via active OGNL allowlisting.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality

Technical Impact: Read Application Data

An attacker could insert an expression that references private data, which is then included in the output.

Integrity

Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands

An attacker could execute arbitrary expressions.
