CVE-2026-104065
Description
A flaw was found in Scribus. An out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the Micrografx Draw (DRW) plugin allows an attacker to achieve arbitrary code execution or a Denial of Service (DoS) by tricking a user into importing a specially crafted file. Due to improper validation of image offsets during parsing, decoded image data is written outside the allocated memory buffer, leading to memory corruption or application crashes.
Statement
An out-of-bounds write in the Micrografx Draw import plugin via an unvalidated y offset; fixed in Scribus 1.6.7 and 1.7.4; requires a user to import a crafted DRW file.
Mitigation
Avoid importing untrusted DRW files; update to Scribus 1.6.7 or 1.7.4.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State
Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
