CVE-2026-103005
Description
A flaw was found in Elasticsearch. An authenticated attacker with connector management privileges can create and access connector resources containing an excessively large description field, causing the cluster to allocate an uncontrolled amount of memory. This issue can exhaust available heap memory, crashing the affected node and resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated Moderate rather than Important because exploitation requires valid credentials with specific connector management privileges, substantially constraining the attack surface to trusted operators. In typical Red Hat deployments, Elasticsearch endpoints are isolated within protected network segments and administrative privileges are tightly controlled via role-based authorization. Consequently, unauthenticated or unprivileged users cannot trigger the memory exhaustion condition, and the impact is confined to service availability on the affected node.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
