CVE-2026-102514
Description
A flaw was found in PeaZip. When decompressing PEA archives, the application fails to properly validate compressed block sizes, resulting in an out-of-bounds write vulnerability. By convincing a victim to open or extract a specially crafted archive file, an attacker could exploit this flaw to execute arbitrary code or cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by crashing the application.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important because memory corruption during archive parsing allows arbitrary code execution within the privileges of the active user session. Although exploitation requires user interaction to open a malicious archive, the resulting potential for complete process takeover warrants an Important severity over Moderate. PeaZip is not shipped or supported in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, confining exposure to community distributions such as Fedora.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State
Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
