CVE-2026-101801

Description

A flaw was found in the Server Optimizer component of MySQL. A remote attacker with high privileges can exploit this vulnerability across network protocols to cause the database to hang or repeatedly crash. This issue leads to a complete Denial of Service (DoS), rendering the service unavailable to users.

Statement

In standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, MySQL database instances are typically deployed behind firewalls with access restricted to trusted application tiers. This vulnerability is assessed as Moderate severity rather than Important because successful exploitation requires an attacker to already authenticate with elevated administrative privileges. While an authenticated privileged user could trigger query optimizer failures leading to service unavailability, the high credential prerequisite significantly limits exposure in production deployments.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Amplification

An infinite loop will cause unexpected consumption of resources, such as CPU cycles or memory. The software's operation may slow down, or cause a long time to respond.
