CVE-2026-101043

Description

A flaw was found in pnpm. This vulnerability can lead to information disclosure because proxy settings defined in workspace configuration files expand environment variable placeholders without proper restrictions. An attacker who convinces a user or automated system to run a command within a malicious repository can capture sensitive environment variables, such as authentication tokens. During configuration loading, pnpm routes network and Domain Name System (DNS) requests containing these secret values to an attacker-controlled server.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity rather than Moderate because it allows unauthorized exfiltration of sensitive environment variables across security boundaries during configuration parsing, before any build scripts execute. Red Hat environments are primarily at risk in automated CI/CD pipelines and developer workspaces where untrusted project manifests are parsed in environments containing exposed credentials. Successful exploitation requires victim interaction to run pnpm within an untrusted repository containing a crafted workspace configuration.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
