CVE-2026-100702
Description
A flaw was found in nodemailer. A remote attacker can trigger a Denial of Service (DoS) by submitting deeply nested arrays in email recipient fields, such as 'to', 'cc', or 'bcc'. When processed, these inputs trigger excessive recursive conversions that exhaust the application's call stack, causing the Node.js process to crash.
Statement
This flaw is rated as having Moderate impact for Red Hat products because triggering the denial of service requires an application to accept and pass arbitrary, deeply structured JSON input directly into email recipient options, affecting only service availability. In typical Red Hat deployments where Nodemailer is embedded as a dependency, such as Red Hat Developer Hub or Grafana, recipient addresses are configured by administrators or validated by the application layer. Consequently, remote exploitation depends on specific, uncommon application-level exposure where untrusted users can submit unrestricted recipient lists.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
