CVE-2026-100651
Description
A flaw was found in vLLM. The service fails to properly enforce length limits on input prompts when handling certain multimodal inference requests. A remote attacker with access to the inference service could exploit this vulnerability by submitting an excessively long prompt, causing an internal worker crash and leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
The GHSA affected package line says < 0.29.0. But the advisory’s own source later points out the affecting version range to start from >= 0.20.0 and explicitly marks older tags such as v0.12.0–v0.17.0 as not affected.
Mitigation
There is no reliable “config knob” called out that safely keeps the vulnerable features path open while fully blocking this. Prefer network policy as ingress so only trusted prefill/decode components can reach it. If possible enforce API-key auth on the inference service so untrusted clients can’t call the endpoint.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Buffer overflows often can be used to execute arbitrary code, which is usually outside the scope of the product's implicit security policy. This can often be used to subvert any other security service.
Availability
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart; DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU)
Buffer overflows generally lead to crashes. Other attacks leading to lack of availability are possible, including putting the product into an infinite loop.
