CVE-2026-100227

Description

A flaw was found in Apache CXF's JAX-RS XML Security module. The XML signature interceptors fail to properly verify that all XML content forwarded to the application is covered by the cryptographic signature. An attacker possessing any document signed by a trusted key can wrap it in unsigned content, causing the application to treat the unsigned content as legitimately signed and bypassing security verification controls.

Statement

Moderate-impact vulnerability in Red Hat products using Apache CXF's JAX-RS XML Security module, including Red Hat JBoss Fuse, Red Hat JBoss Web Server, and Red Hat build of Apache Camel. A remote attacker who possesses a document signed by a trusted key can wrap it in unsigned XML; the affected interceptors may then pass unsigned content to the application as signed, bypassing signature-based integrity controls. The CVSS 3.1 score is 5.9 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N), reflecting network reachability and high attack complexity because a trusted signed document is required, with integrity impact only. Red Hat JBoss Fuse and Red Hat JBoss Web Server are out of support scope. For Red Hat build of Apache Camel, remediation is deferred because the issue is MODERATE with CVSS below 7.0; the residual risk is that applications relying on these XML signatures may accept attacker-controlled unsigned content as authenticated.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
