CVE-2025-58773

Description

A flaw was found in AMI AptioV BIOS. A local attacker with administrative privileges could trigger an out-of-bounds write to system memory. Successful exploitation can lead to memory corruption and arbitrary code execution within the firmware environment.

Statement

A moderate-impact out-of-bounds write flaw was found in AMI AptioV BIOS firmware. A local attacker who already has administrative privileges on an affected system could trigger an out-of-bounds write to system memory, potentially causing memory corruption and arbitrary code execution within the firmware environment. Red Hat rates the security impact of this flaw as Moderate because exploitation requires local access, high privileges, and high attack complexity, and the consequences are confined to the firmware environment. The upstream CVSS 4.0 score of 7.1 (Important) is higher than Red Hat's CVSS 3.1 score of 6.4 (Moderate); the difference reflects scoring-version and scope-metric differences between the two assessments. This flaw is in third-party BIOS firmware supplied by American Megatrends (AMI), and no Red Hat products are currently recorded as affected by it.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Integrity

Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands

Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart

Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.

Other

Technical Impact: Unexpected State

Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
