CVE-2025-50084

Description

From CVE.org

Vulnerability in the MySQL Server product of Oracle MySQL (component: Server: Optimizer). Supported versions that are affected are 8.0.0-8.0.42, 8.4.0-8.4.5 and 9.0.0-9.3.0. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows high privileged attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise MySQL Server. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash (complete DOS) of MySQL Server. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 4.9 (Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).

Statement

A flaw was found in the MySQL Server Optimizer. Red Hat rates this issue as moderate severity; it affects the mysql packages in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (mysql:8.0), Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (mysql and mysql:8.4), and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 (mysql8.4), as well as the Fedora community mysql8.0 and mysql8.4 packages. The vulnerability is easily exploitable and allows a high privileged attacker with network access via multiple protocols to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash, resulting in a complete denial of service of MySQL Server. Only availability is impacted (CVSS 3.1 base score 4.9, vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H), which matches the upstream Oracle severity assessment; upstream lists MySQL versions 8.0.0-8.0.42, 8.4.0-8.4.5, and 9.0.0-9.3.0 as affected. The mysql package in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Extended Lifecycle Support is not affected because the vulnerable code is not present. For the affected Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat In-Vehicle OS streams, remediation is delegated and a fix is being pursued through the normal update process. For Fedora, the fix is deferred and tracked upstream, so affected Fedora installations retain residual exposure to this denial of service until a fixed version reaches them through a later release or Rawhide.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability. As a general precaution, since exploitation requires a highly privileged database account with network access, restricting network exposure of the MySQL server and limiting privileged accounts can reduce risk. Apply the updated mysql packages delivered through Red Hat errata for the affected Red Hat Enterprise Linux streams, or Oracle's July 2025 Critical Patch Update for Oracle MySQL.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
