CVE-2025-39890
Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ath12k Wi-Fi driver. This vulnerability allows increased kernel memory consumption, leading to a denial of service, via malformed firmware/WMI input during device initialization.
Statement
Fixes a memory leak in ath12k_service_ready_ext_event() where svc_rdy_ext.mac_phy_caps wasn’t freed on the error path. Impact is limited to kernel memory consumption during device bring-up or error handling when the firmware/WMI “service ready ext” parsing fails. It isn’t triggerable by normal network traffic (requires malformed firmware/WMI input). For the CVSS the PR:H because an attacker would need high privileges or control over device firmware/driver initialization (e.g., loading modified firmware or otherwise influencing WMI events), but not just user-space or over-the-air packets.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (Other); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU)
An attacker that can influence the allocation of resources that are not properly released could deplete the available resource pool and prevent all other processes from accessing the same type of resource. Frequently-affected resources include memory, CPU, disk space, power or battery, etc.
