CVE-2025-21873
Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Universal Flash Storage (UFS) subsystem. When an unsupported Advanced Replay Protected Memory Block (ARPMB) command fails, improper error handling causes an invalid user-space memory copy operation. A local user with access to block SCSI generic interfaces can exploit this issue by submitting unsupported commands to an attached UFS device, triggering a kernel panic and resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because exploitation requires local access to block SCSI generic interfaces on systems equipped with Universal Flash Storage (UFS) hardware, resulting in a denial of service without compromising confidentiality or integrity. The issue can only be triggered when unsupported Advanced Replay Protected Memory Block (ARPMB) commands are executed against an attached UFS device. Earlier releases, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9, do not incorporate the vulnerable code and are unaffected.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
