CVE-2024-53164
Description
From CVE.org
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: sched: fix ordering of qlen adjustment Changes to sch->q.qlen around qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog() need to happen _before_ a call to said function because otherwise it may fail to notify parent qdiscs when the child is about to become empty.
Statement
The bug is in Common Applications Kept Enhanced (CAKE) queue management algorithm. The support of this algorithm enabled starting from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2. It is disabled by default (can be enabled by tc qdisc cake command). The security impact of this issue is limited.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, prevent module sch_cake from being loaded. Please see https://access.redhat.com/solutions/41278 for how to blacklist a kernel module to prevent it from loading automatically.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

It is possible to overflow the number of temporary files because directories typically have limits on the number of files allowed. This could create a denial of service problem.
