CVE-2024-5300

Description

A flaw was found in Canonical snapd. The base AppArmor security profile configuration in snapd inadvertently allows strictly confined snap applications to bypass intended sandbox restrictions. This enables a compromised or malicious snap application, when running as root, to access sensitive system password hashes from the systemd-userdbd service, leading to information disclosure. This issue is mitigated on systems where the systemd-userdbd service is not installed by default.

Statement

Red Hat does not ship the Canonical snapd package. The vulnerability is in snapd's AppArmor security profile configuration, not in systemd itself. RHEL systems are not affected as they do not include snapd.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
