CVE-2024-50300
Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's RTQ2208 regulator driver. The driver attempts to use an uninitialized configuration structure during device operations. A local user could exploit this flaw to trigger a kernel error, resulting in a system crash and a Denial of Service (DoS).
Mitigation
To mitigate this vulnerability, prevent the rtq2208-regulator kernel module from being autoloaded by creating a modprobe configuration file:
# echo "install rtq2208-regulator /bin/true" > /etc/modprobe.d/disable-rtq2208-regulator.conf
If the module is currently loaded, unload it or restart the system. Note that applying this workaround disables support for Richtek RTQ2208 regulator hardware, and a system reboot may be required to ensure the module is completely removed from memory.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
