CVE-2024-47724
Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ath11k Wi-Fi driver. This vulnerability occurs because the driver attempts to execute a sleeping function within a critical code section while processing beacon transmission events. An attacker could potentially exploit this to trigger a system crash, leading to a denial of service.
Mitigation
For Fedora systems affected by this issue, where the `ath11k` Wi-Fi driver is not essential, the module can be blacklisted to prevent it from loading and thus avoid triggering the vulnerability.
Create a file `/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath11k.conf` with the following content:
`blacklist ath11k`
After creating the file, regenerate the initramfs and reboot the system for the changes to take effect.
`dracut -f -v`
`reboot`
Note that blacklisting this module will disable Wi-Fi functionality provided by Qualcomm `ath11k` devices.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
