CVE-2024-46815
Description
A negative-index out-of-bounds write vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel AMDGPU DCN2.1 display driver. The rn_notify_wm_ranges() function can access reader_wm_sets[num_valid_sets - 1] when num_valid_sets is zero, resulting in an out-of-bounds kernel memory write that may cause memory corruption and a denial of service
Mitigation
Prevent the amdgpu kernel module from loading by blacklisting it.
Run the following commands as root to create a modprobe configuration file that prevents autoloading:
# echo "blacklist amdgpu" > /etc/modprobe.d/disable-amdgpu.conf
# echo "install amdgpu /bin/true" >> /etc/modprobe.d/disable-amdgpu.conf
Caveat: Disabling the amdgpu driver prevents graphical hardware acceleration and display initialization on systems utilizing AMD graphics hardware.
Warning: A system restart is required if the amdgpu kernel module is currently loaded into memory.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
