CVE-2024-46716

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's dmaengine: altera-msgdma component. This vulnerability occurs due to improper handling of descriptor freeing, where certain descriptors are not correctly removed from a list. A local attacker could exploit this flaw to cause a resource leak, potentially leading to a denial of service (DoS) on the system.

Mitigation

To mitigate this issue, prevent the `altera-msgdma` kernel module from loading. Create a file named `/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-altera-msgdma.conf` with the content `blacklist altera-msgdma`. A system reboot is required for this change to take effect. This may impact functionality that relies on the Altera mSGDMA driver.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
