CVE-2024-42273

Description

A flaw was found in the F2FS file system in the Linux Kernel due to incorrect handling of compression and garbage collection. The CURSEG_ALL_DATA_ATGC flag was mistakenly assigned to COMPR_ADDR for pages marked with the garbage collection flag (gcing). This led to an assertion failure (BUG_ON) at fs/f2fs/segment.c:3589. This issue occurs during file operations involving compression and truncation. The fix ensures proper flag management, preventing the BUG_ON and maintaining file system stability.

Statement

Red Hat Enterprise Linux is not impacted by this CVE, as this vulnerability does not affect the specific versions or configurations of the Linux kernel used in its distributions. This ensures that users of Red Hat Enterprise Linux are not exposed to the potential risks associated with this issue and no further action or mitigation is necessary for systems running this operating system.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
