CVE-2024-42064
Description
From CVE.org
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/display: Skip pipe if the pipe idx not set properly [why] Driver crashes when pipe idx not set properly [how] Add code to skip the pipe that idx not set properly
Statement
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel AMD display driver (drm/amd/display), where the driver crashes when a display pipe index is not set properly. This is a low impact issue for Red Hat products: triggering the crash requires local access with high privileges and the consequence is a kernel crash (denial of service) only, with no impact on confidentiality or integrity. Red Hat therefore rates this flaw Low severity, which differs from the CVE.org rating of Important (CVSS 7.8), whose vector assumes high confidentiality and integrity impacts that are not supported by the technical evidence. The current Red Hat assessment marks Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, 8, and 9 (kernel and kernel-rt) and the Hosted OpenShift (ARO and OSD) kernel streams as not affected, while the Fedora community kernel is affected; a fix is being pursued for Fedora through the upstream kernel update that skips a pipe whose index is not set properly.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart; DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory)
An attacker could provide unexpected values and cause a program crash or arbitrary control of resource allocation, leading to excessive consumption of resources such as memory and CPU.
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory; Read Files or Directories
An attacker could read confidential data if they are able to control resource references.
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
An attacker could use malicious input to modify data or possibly alter control flow in unexpected ways, including arbitrary command execution.
