Description
A flaw was found in Node.js. Node.js depends on multiple built-in utility functions to normalize paths provided to node:fs functions, which can be overwritten with user-defined implementations, leading to a filesystem permission model bypass through a path traversal attack.
Statement
It is a path-traversal / filesystem permission bypass vulnerability in Node.js, specifically related to the experimental permission model in versions 20 and 21, however, the “permission model” feature is experimental (i.e., not default) in Node.js 20/21 at the time of disclosure, which is why this has been marked as moderate by Redhat
