CVE-2023-54226

Description

From CVE.org

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: af_unix: Fix data races around sk->sk_shutdown. KCSAN found a data race around sk->sk_shutdown where unix_release_sock() and unix_shutdown() update it under unix_state_lock(), OTOH unix_poll() and unix_dgram_poll() read it locklessly. We need to annotate the writes and reads with WRITE_ONCE() and READ_ONCE(). Statement

A race condition was found in the Linux kernel AF_UNIX subsystem where sk->sk_shutdown was updated under a lock but read locklessly in unix_poll()/unix_dgram_poll(). This data race can lead to inconsistent poll results (missed or spurious HUP/RDHUP notifications) and, in worst cases, local stability issues. The fix uses READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() to eliminate the concurrency race.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
